Overview
Join us for a half-day, in-person seminar exploring two key trends shaping modern engineering: generative AI and mission-driven systems engineering.
Through expert-led sessions, attendees will learn how generative AI can enhance engineering workflows and how MBSE can be extended to support Mission Engineering practices that connect system architectures to operational outcomes.
Participants can also stay for the afternoon and deepen their skills through an optional hands-on workshop to build model-based systems engineering constructs in System Composer. Attendees will build a system architecture and trace to system requirements, create specialized views of the architecture, and link to Simulink to verify the behavior of the system.
NOTE: limited capacity of 50ppl for the morning sessions, and 20ppl for the afternoon session. No virtual option is available for this event.
Learning Objectives
After participating in this seminar, attendees should be able to:
- Understand how generative and agentic AI capabilities can be incorporated into Model-Based Design workflows and identify appropriate engineering use cases.
- Evaluate how AI-assisted engineering workflows can support design, simulation, testing, and model development activities while maintaining engineering oversight.
- Work with Mission Engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), combining the two combining the two to support mission-focused analysis and decision-making.
- Assess approaches for connecting mission objectives, operational scenarios, system architectures, and engineering models within a model-based environment.
- Identify methods for analyzing system and mission-level tradeoffs earlier in the engineering lifecycle using architecture and simulation-based techniques.
Optional Hands-On Workshop learning objectives:
- Create and analyze a system architecture using System Composer and apply core Model-Based Systems Engineering concepts in a practical exercise.
- Establish traceability between system architecture elements, requirements, and behavioral models to support engineering analysis and verification activities.

About the Presenter
Russell Graves is an Application Engineer at MathWorks. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Tennessee. His expertise is in multi-agent machine learning, complex systems, and 3d visualizations. He has worked for 4 years prior to joining MathWorks applying these to transportation and autonomous vehicles in a research capacity.

Bridging MBSE and Mission Engineering with MATLAB & Simulink: Mission engineering offers an analytical and data-driven approach to break down and evaluate increasingly complex missions. Closing mission gaps requires stakeholders across government and industry to effectively collaborate, and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) can provide a common framework for the underlying architecture composition, simulation, analysis, and design needs. The MathWorks toolchain can provide an integration platform or complement existing solutions to bridge the gap between mission modeling and MBSE. |
