Looking for Fall 2021 intern!

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work with our experienced software engineers work on the development of a next generation industrial PDE and model order reduction engine. This position requires someone who is passionate about advanced techniques in high performance PDE modeling using FE and integral equation methods. Typical application areas are solid mechanics, electromagnetism, heat conduction, heat transfer and fluid dynamics to name a few.

As an intern, you will receive a combination of practical experience and training in a work environment that fosters and rewards cooperation, teamwork, learning, and fun.

This internship will prepare you for a career at MathWorks starting in our Engineering Development Group (EDG).


After training on MathWorks development processes and tools, you will work with the Simulink MOR pilot team on:

  • Help with developing C++ unit tests for an adaptive FE/IE solver engine (mainly in linear elasticity and electromagnetism)
  • Help implement certain components of an adaptive FE engine

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must be pursuing a master's level or a PhD level degree in a technical discipline.
  • Experience with C++

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience with numerical modeling in the area partial differential equations
  • Knowledge of applied functional analysis relating to adaptive FE methods, hierarchical basis functions and discrete Sobolev spaces will be a big plus.
  • Experience with build environments, gnu make, cmake and cross linkage to different libraries on multiple platforms ( Windows, Linux, MacOs, ...)
  • Experience with HPC libraries and tools such as Trilinos, PETSC and VTK.
  • Experience with linear algebra tools such as BLAS, LAPACK, MUMPS, METIS, Suitesparse to name a few.
  • Experience in OOP programming
  • Strong communication skills
  • 3-4 months full-time commitment
