Manager - Japan Industry Market Development Team

Job Summary

MathWorks is seeking an experienced leader to head our Japan Industry Market Development team. In this role, you will shape the strategy and execution to expand the adoption of MATLAB & Simulink across key industries including aerospace, automotive, electronics, semiconductors, industrial automation, and medical devices. You will lead a talented team that partners with customers, Sales, Application Engineering, and Marketing to establish MATLAB & Simulink as mission-critical tools in engineering and research workflows. This is a high-impact leadership role that combines technical depth, strategic vision, and strong people leadership to accelerate MathWorks’ growth in Japan.

Responsibilities

  • Lead & Develop the Team
    • Recruit, coach, and grow a high-performing team of industry-focused market developers.
    • Provide hands-on mentoring, empowering the team to deliver impact with strategic customers.
    • Build a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Drive Business Growth
    • Collaborate with Sales, Application Engineering, and Marketing leaders to define and execute a long-term business strategy for Japan.
    • Align annual business plans with global company priorities and industry opportunities.
    • Track progress against key growth metrics and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Strengthen Customer Relationships
    • Build sustainable executive, management, and engineering-level relationships with top Japanese customers.
    • Shape MathWorks’ market and product direction based on deep understanding of customer workflows, applications, and challenges.
    • Champion customer needs internally to ensure long-term success.
  • Promote Market Awareness
    • Guide creation of impactful local content—technical papers, demos, web pages, and social media—for Japan audiences.
    • Represent MathWorks at key industry conferences, events, and exhibitions.
    • Engage with analysts and media to raise visibility of MATLAB & Simulink and their impact in Japanese industries.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree and 7 years of professional work experience (or equivalent experience) is required. 2 years management experience is required.
  • MATLAB

Additional Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in engineering or science.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with MATLAB & Simulink in model-based design, algorithm development, embedded systems, or data analytics in industries such as aerospace, automotive, semiconductors, or industrial automation.
  • 12+ years of industry experience spanning engineering, technical sales, business development, or technical marketing.
  • 7+ years of proven management and leadership experience building and coaching high-performance teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior-level customers and drive market strategies.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Japanese and English.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in product marketing, application engineering, or business development with a global technical software company.
  • Strong business acumen and track record of cross-functional collaboration.
  • Executive presence and ability to represent MathWorks in public forums.

 

Location
Tokyo, Japan. Travel required up to 25%.
