Is it possible to plot images without them disturbing other work

I am running a script which plots out images. I want to work on something else while this is taking place, however the images are produced every couple of minutes and interrupt my other work by always opening on top. This means that anything I'm typing is half in my document and half on the command line. Is there a way of having the images plot not on top? I know I could make my window I'm working on "always on top" but if I'm switching between screens this isn't ideal.

Specify the axes to plot to using the imshow(I,'parent',ax) syntax:
hAx = axes;
T = timer('Period',5,...
'ExecutionMode','fixedRate',...
'BusyMode','drop',...
'TasksToExecute',10,...
'StartDelay',0,...
'TimerFcn',@(src,evt)imshow(rand(256),'parent',hAx),...
'StartFcn',[],...
'StopFcn',[],...
'ErrorFcn',[]);
start(T)
