what if Stand-Alone Solar PV System with AC and DC loads with Battery Backup

8 views (last 30 days)
Hello, I am going to design Stand - Alone Solar PV System for rural areas. My system (one single home) has Lights (DC), TV (DC) and Refrigerator (AC) loads. I am struggling to design this system. Especially how to connect AC and DC loads to my model with battery bank. Can this command (ee_solar_standalone_dcsystem_withbatterybackup) be used for this purpose? Sorry if my question is not so clear, i will try to make it understantable please let me know.
I greatly appreciate any your help. Thanks in advance!

Hello Alisher,
you can use that as a starting place, but it doesn't have any AC power in it. Modifying it is possible, but would require a decent amount of experience with the tools as you need to add your own inverter and controls while also modifying the supervisory control in the example. You might want to start here:
As microgrids have many similar modelling requirements.
You should also do the on-ramps here: https://matlabacademy.mathworks.com/#simulink

Hello Joel,
Thanks for your answer. If it is difficult to modify how can I build simple Stand Alone PV system with basic loads (AC refrigirator and DC lights)? Is there any specific blocks for TV, lights, refrigirator in simulink?
Thanks in advance,
Kind regards,
Alisher

Hello Alisher,
unfortunately, the simscape electrical library does not have an average value dc-ac converter block, so the primary path forward be to use basic blocks to get some of the behavior that you are looking for. I put together an example of a behavioral inverter and used the available behavioral dc/dc converter to combine ac and dc loads on a dc bus. I did not include the solar, battery, converter piece, as you can take that from examples or come up with your own. (the model is in R2021a)
Regards,
Joel
