the computation of the determinant of a matrix composed of block matrices

Hi there,

I read the computation of the determinant of a matrix composed of block matrices in this manner from a publication

where A, Bi, Ci, Di are all block matrices, and indicates a determinant. But this publication does not tell readers how to prove this.

Could anyone tell me how to compute it, or where I can find the proof?
