why do I receive - You do not have a valid license file

I tried to run MATLAB 2023a with my student account, and I got the error: You do not have a valid license file

I can think of a couple of possibilities:
  • perhaps you managed to install MATLAB without activating it and just need to activate it
  • perhaps you managed to install MATLAB without having a valid MATLAB account
  • perhaps you installed a newer version of MATLAB than your account is authorized for
  • perhaps you made a mistake entering your license information
This error can occur for several licensing or activation-related reasons that are difficult to diagnose from the information currently provided. I recommend contacting MathWorks Customer Support, as they can review your license entitlement and activation status and help identify the specific cause.
