What is the meanig of annotating bounding boxes

Hello I would greatly appreciate if anyone can kindly explain in simple terms what annotating a bounding box means? My idea of annotation is to provide some kind of information on what is being bounded by the box. Am I right?

Yes you are right. Annotation means adding a note as a explanation or as a comment in the form of text or a diagram.
