Not really a MATLAB question. A simple internet search would answer what "maker" means.

It is a MATLAB Question.
A few years ago, the magazine MAKE popularized the idea (in the U.S.) of home experimenters creating robots and other technological items of varying complexity for fun. From that evolved Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and similar collections of components that could be used and programmed in a variety of ways to do interesting things. People who build and program these ingenious devices whether from kits or other components are called ‘makers’.
The MATLAB site for this is: MakerZone | Arduino, Raspberry Pi and Lego MINDSTORMS Project Resources.
Check it out and have some fun with technology!
