Is variant management subsystem more efficient in using up memory as opposed to switching between traditional subsystem in simulink?

Ive been trying to create a model that involves passing through a juncture which decides between two different subsystems using a switch. Later i came across the concept of 'variant management' which is a dynamic and efficient version of the above case. However none of the documentation provided for the variant management mentions if it consumes lesser memory than using a switch and ordinary subsystems. The objective is to use the option that saves memory.
