Cannot type the character '[' in Matlab

Hello, when I am working in Matlab and trying to create a matrix, I cannot type an opening bracket to begin. I have narrowed it down to specifically the '[' character. It appears to only be that character, as I can even type '{' into matlab fine, which for me involves hitting shift + [. So the key itself is not malfuncitoning, it seems that matlab will simply not allow me to type in an opening brackets. I do not use a foreign keyboard, and I am working in the browser version of Matlab, as that is what my school offers me.

Did you try restarting the browser and, if that didn't solve it, restarting your system?

I have no clue why that would happen, but a potential workaround is to copy a bracket from another program (e.g., right here []), and paste that into Matlab

This is historically associated with using a keyboard configuration other than US-ASCII, but could possibly also happen if your locale is set to non-English. In particular this problem appears to be most strongly associated with using a German keyboard or having a German locale even if using a USA keyboard.

If your locale is not currently usa English, try setting it to that.

1. I have tried restarting system and browser, did not fix problem.
2. I cannot appear to paste things that come outside of the Matlab program browser. For example, I can copy and paste things typed within Matlab, but not from outside of it for some unknown reason.
3. I have changed the locale to English, still no bracket.

Update: I have been able to insert a bracket by finding it in the matlab equation section, and copy pasting it. However, I cannot copy paste it into a code section, which is what I need to do. Even if i copy the following statemtn: [1;2;3;4], and try to paste it into a code section, it results in 1;2;3;4] being pasted. I was originally thinking this problem had something to do with the actual key on the keyboard, but now it appears that Matlab will simply not allow me to type an opening bracket into a code block. Is this an intended feature? Attached is a screenshot of the issue. I am attempting to paste the bracketed section into the code, but it will not paste.

You appear to be using Live Script. Does the behavior change for regular scripts that are not Live Script?

To respond, the script does not matter. Normal and Live scripts malfunction the same. In addition, the character '\' will not type, but '|' will type.

Are other students in your school experiencing the same issue ? Perhaps you should ask your school to raise a support ticket with Matlab
