A Brief Introduction:
We are finding ourselves working from home more and more.  This guide focuses on helping those users to continue to use MATLAB when at home.  Whether you are new to installing MATLAB, require assistance with accessing a license, or you are experiencing common at-home errors, this guide aims to assist you in getting started.
Getting Started
Install MATLAB
If you do not currently have MATLAB installed, and you have a license number:
Transfer license
If you have a Designated Computer license, but it is already activated to your work computer.  You may transfer it:
Change active license
If you already have MATLAB installed on your home computer, but you need to use an alternative license, you may re-activate MATLAB to the alternative license without reinstalling:
Use MATLAB Online
Some licenses have MATLAB Online enabled on their license.  This may be a viable alternative to installing MATLAB onto your home computer.
I have a Network License. What are my options?
Use a company or university VPN to connect to the license server.
Many companies and universities offer their employees/students access to a VPN to access their company/university network.  In most cases, this may allow you to connect to the license server to continue to use the network license.  To determine if you have access to a VPN, please contact your company/university IT department.
For network licenses with borrowing enabled, you may borrow a license.
For non-classroom network licenses, many license servers allow users to borrow a license for offline usage.  To determine if this solution is available for you, or if it is the right solution, please contact your License Administrator.
Generate a trial
To work around using a network license, you may generate a trial license.  Trial licenses are active for 30 days.
Possible problems when working from home
Most users will not have access to their IT department when working from home.  With this being the case, you may encounter the following issues when working from home.
Connection error
When installing MATLAB, some users may experience connection errors.  For assistance with resolving connection error, please refer to the following article:

License Manager Errors
Whether you are installing a standalone license on your home computer or attempting to connect to a VPN, you may get a license manager error.  Here are our most common license manager errors when working from home:
License Manager Error -9
When activating a license to your computer, it activates to your Host ID, but it may also activate to your login name if you are using an Individual license.  A License Manager Error -9 occurs if either of these are activated to incorrectly.
License Manager Error -96
When connecting to a VPN, a connection isn't always guaranteed.  If your connection is failing, you may receive a License Manager Error -96.
