Why do I see the error "Unable to locate required installation files" when running the MathWorks installer?

8,215 views (last 30 days)
When I enter the File Installation Key or select my license and confirm my installation settings, I receive an error that MATLAB is unable to locate the required installation files, or I see that some of my products are missing.
How do I fix this issue?
In MATLAB R2014a and earlier, the error is "There are no products available to install from this location."

This error can be caused by any of the following issues:
  • The product you are trying to install is not available on your platform
  • You have not downloaded any or all of the correct installation files
  • The installation files are not in the correct location
  • You are not using the correct File Installation Key
  • You are not running the MathWorks Installer from the installation files
Note: If you are running the MathWorks Installer to install MATLAB or other MathWorks products with an internet connection but receive an unable to connect error, please see the following link.

The product you are trying to install is not available on your platform
If you are attempting to install a product that is not available on your platform or is not available on your platform for the release you are using, then you will see this error message. For example, if you are attempting to install MATLAB Web App Server on the Apple Silicon version of R2023b, you will see this error message. To see a list of unavailable products for Apple Silicon versions of MATLAB, see this link.

You have not downloaded any or all of the correct installation files
To perform an offline installation using the File Installation Key, you are required to obtain the installation files prior to installation.  The MathWorks Installer downloaded from our website, e.g. matlab_R2023b_win64.exe, are not the installation files; the installation files are obtained by downloading the ISO (License Administrators only) or by downloading the installation files via the MathWorks Installer on an online machine. For instructions on obtaining the installation files, please refer to the following article:

You are not using the correct File Installation Key
If you are installing MATLAB or other MathWorks products offline with the File Installation Key, and the products are missing, make sure you have the correct File Installation Key. For instructions on obtaining a new File Installation Key, see this related article:

You are not running the MathWorks Installer from the downloaded installation files/ISO
You may be getting this message if you have downloaded the proper installation files and have the right File Installation Key, but you are running the installer downloaded from mathworks.com/downloads. To install products using the installation files, navigate to the folder where you downloaded the files and run the MathWorks Installer contained within. The installer file is called "setup.exe" on Windows, "install" on Linux, and "InstallForMacOSIntelProcessor" or "InstallForMacOSAppleSilicon" on Mac.

If you have the correct files and installation codes and the installer still does not list the product(s), please contact Installation support. You can contact Customer Service and Installation Support via the MathWorks website here:
