Musical instruments used in popular music and orchestral music produce a wide range of frequencies. When these are mixed together in a music recording, the frequency distribution of the recording will be determined by whichever instruments have been included in any given track.
Elowsson and Friberg (2017) have investigated the long-term average spectrum (LTAS) of the spectral distribution of music signals. They determined a mean LTAS, and a curve fit of their results is reported there. This is a compact representation of the spectral distribution function that is associated with popular music.
This function performs spline interpolation of spectrums representative of of pop music and orchestral music, using data digitised from Elowsson and Friberg (2017) and Greiner and Eggers (1989). Data from percussive pop music samples is included.
