External monitor glitches and version issues

When I have Matlab windows open on an external display connected via VGA (via USB-C dongle), there are several glitches that do not occur when I have the windows open on the laptop monitor:
1) The hover feature in the editor debug mode does not work. If I hover over a variable, I see a brief flicker of the contents of the variable in the tooltip, but it goes away in less than a second.
2) Matlab windows (including figures) do not persistently stay on the desktop I've placed them on. I have multiple desktops assigned to the external monitor (using MacOS built-in multiple desktops, not any 3rd party extensions). When my computer goes to sleep and I wake it up, all of the Matlab windows have moved to the primary desktop for that monitor and I have to move them back.
Are these known issues in 2018a? I'm upgrading from 2016a where I did not experience these issues. Were they problems in version between those two? Should I downgrade?
Thanks,
Matt
