MASH (Moving Average over Shifting Horizon)

A tool for Exploratory Data Analysis and trend detection in seasonal data

You are now following this Submission

MASH (Moving Average over Shifting Horizon) is a smoothing techniques to be applied in Exploratory Data Analysis for facilitating trend detection. It allows to simultaneously investigate the seasonality in the data and filter out the effects of interannual variability.

It can be particularly useful when dealing with time series of environmental variables (precipitation, temperature, streamflow, ...), but it can be used for trend analysis of any seasonal data.

Further information can be found in: "Trend detection in seasonal data: from hydrology to water resources", D. Anghileri, F. Pianosi, and R. Soncini-Sessa, Journal of Hydrology, 2014 (http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jhydrol.2014.01.022)
