How do I start MatLab under OS El Capitan?

I have upgraded my iMac to OS El Capitan but now Matlab won't open. I downloaded a new JAVA but now the error message is that it doesn't recognize my computer. Some years ago I transferred MatLab to my iMac from my older computer and until I upgraded to El Capitan everything was running just fine. Now I regret upgrading but how do I activate MatLab?
