Is there any machinery directly compatible with MATLAB/SIMULINK?

This might be a silly question, but is MATLAB/SIMULINK ever used directly as source code for any machinery? Are there any MATLAB apps designed for this? I've only ever used MATLAB for computations. I imagine that it could be used for certain measuring devices. Was wondering if there is any truth to this thought and if there are any other examples or if its really only used post data collection. Just curious. Thanks!
