There is no solution, so vpasolve() returns 0.
Note: your variable is a symbolic scalar expression, so you will not be able to index it at anything other than (1,1)

When I copy your code and try it, I get Empty sym: 0-by-1 .
My tests with your code suggested that for large negative d values, your function has an asymptote at approximately 2.238624002 -- certainly not 0. But it is not out of the question that near the value you indicate, that due to numeric overflow or underflow, the function loses precision and comes out 0.
