how to find intensity of am image

i have an target image and trying to find image intenstiy of that but i am not able to find that if anyone could help me out that ill be great thanks

iwant = mean(I(:));

how about finding the amplitude of an image. ? is there any other way or i need to use i = A ^2 formula ?
