How to control a Synchronous Machine Salient Pole (standard) in motoring mode with speed input?

1 view (last 30 days)
I use the Synchronous machine block from Simscape and I need to operate it as generator and then change it to motor mode while having speed as input. I can open and close the breaker, it does not have to be seemless.
How could I do that? I understood Power Factor control is a good procedure but how it can be implemented?
The only things which I can control is the field voltage and current.
I managed to achieve that by using a negative torque input but for my application that is not possible. Any suggestion is welcomed. Thank you!

Hello,
I recommend using voltage and current as input into the motor controller as well, instead of just looking at speed which in your model is fixed and won't give you enough information to control anything. With current and voltage, you can determine the power in/out and similarly, if you are generating or motoring. There are numerous articles out there for controlling synchronous machines. I would find one that conceptually makes sense to you and start there.
Here is a generic example for control. You can't use the output as it requires an inverter, but it does have numerous calculations like clark/park that could be useful for you.
Regards,
Joel
