How can I change the values of edit boxes in a mask?

Hallo,

I was wondering how to change the values in the edit boxes of simulink block mask. If I understood the following Answer right, this is not possible: https://de.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/98264-why-am-i-unable-to-change-the-default-value-of-a-block-parameter-using-the-set_param-function-in-sim

I would be really happy, if anyone can show me a way to get this done.

The link you put as a reference is a question from 2009 for R2009a. You put R2017b in the Release detail of your question. So, the reference might be outdated.

The reference itself is a question about "changing the default value of a Simulink block" while you are asking about "changing the value in the edit boxes of a masked block in Simulink". I think the reference is not relevant at all to what you want.

I believe that the documentation for masked subsystem (I think you can start from here) should provide a clear description that you need.

thank you for your quick reply. I am familliar with masks but I do not see a possibility to modify the the values of edit boxes in a mask.

I am able to read the values from a mask via

h = Simulink.Mask.get('Testframe_with_Cultivator_mounted_new/Cultivator')

I do not understand how to adress the special boxes in the mask

This is the code form the MATLAB help site:

Simulink.MaskParameter.set(Name,Value)

If I put in the name of the box and the desired value, there is an error, which says that the name is unknown.

I hope you understand my problem. It would be very nice if you could help me.

Maybe this reference could help.

I never need to set values of mask parameters programmatically, so I'm not sure what to do.

Perhaps you can give a variable name inside the mask, for example in Cultivator block, you give "value1" as a mask parameter value. Then, in the script, you specify

value1 = 10; %for example

I think that can work, but I don't know if that is what you need.

I took a screenshot from my mask. Maybe this will make it easier.

If I type in the following code, I get the following error message:

Do you also know how to handle variables that contain a specific value which have to be put in the mask? The following example does not work:

d=2;
set_param(gcb,'BC',d)

I get the following error:

Invalid setting in SubSystem block (mask) 'Cultivator' for parameter 'BC'

If I use

set_param(gcb,'BC','d')

I only get the expression 'd' in my edit box.

Your BC is defined as text (or string). d=2 is numeric. You need touse num2str(d).

I am really sorry, but I have got another question. I wrote an initialization-script for my simulink model, which has to set the parameters in the mask as a default.

Here are some lines from the code:

% Open the model
open_system('Testframe_with_Cultivator_mounted');
% Open the mask of the block
open_system('Testframe_with_Cultivator_mounted/Cultivator');
% Set values of the edit boxes to the values of the initialization-script
set_param(gcb,'BC',num2str(BC));

If I do so, I get the following error:

SubSystem block (mask) does not have a parameter named 'BC'

If I close the mask and run the initialization-script again, I get the same error code. If I run the script, close the mask, open the mask editor and close the editor witout any modifications and run the script again, it works perfectly.

Do you have anny suggestions how to deal with this problem?

gcb is "get current block", it returns the current selected block. Specify the block to make your script robust.

% Open the model
open_system('Testframe_with_Cultivator_mounted');
% Open the mask of the block

I have now applied the changes to the code but I get another problem. If I use more than one of these statements in the initialization script, e.g.

open_system('Testframe_with_Cultivator_mounted');
% Open the mask of the block
blk='Testframe_with_Cultivator_mounted/Cultivator';
% Set values in the edit boxes of the mask
set_param(blk,'BC',num2str(Mdl.implement.Cultivator.BC));
set_param(blk,'h_S1',num2str(Mdl.implement.Cultivator.h_S1));

it will only change the value in box BC. The value in box h_S1 will not be changed when running the script. Both BC and h_S1 are in the same tab and the I have already checked the name of the boxes to ensure that they are right.

Do you have any suggestion on solving this problem?
