calculating a number in matlab

Hello, I am trying to simply calculate a number in matlab, and for some reason im getting this error:
EDU>> x=-((3+sqrt(9-(4*1*(-8^-18)))/2)
x=-((3+sqrt(9-(4*1*(-8^-18)))/2)
|
Error: Expression or statement is incorrect--possibly unbalanced (, {, or [.
anyone know whats going on here?

this would be correct syntax x=-(3+sqrt(9-(4*1*((-8)^-18)))/2) try it
