I am having windows 8.I am not able to install matlab 2012 a on windows 8. As soon as I execute the application, the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable shows up and then it shows up an error and then the setup vanishes. this is my problem.
I even tried uninstalling Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 and running the setup again after the reboot of the system. i have tried updating windows also. But it doesn't work.
Can anybody suggest a solution for this???

I'm having the same issue. It takes for a few minutes for the VC redist install window to go away, then nothing happens. It also takes a long time to uninstall it. I've done all the same stuff except for reinstalling Windows. Checked the event logs and got this error from "SideBySide":
Activation context generation failed for "D:\Downloads\matlab2012\bin\win32\VCRT_check.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.6195" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis

And I think I got it. Went here and installed the x64 version.
