Very similar to my UDP socket contribution a few minutes ago.

This basic example offers an interface for POSIX communication using the python socket implementation.
Inter-Process-Communication using POSIX sockets is usually not supported by Matlab and/or java, since it is very platform dependent. This example uses the python socket AF_UNIX type to send and receive datagrams.
As far as I know there should be no requirements except the python module file from this .zip.
