Lateral Vehicle Dynamics Simulation

To Improve your design parameters, Roni Deb, vehicle dynamics engineer from Camber Racing, joins Christoph Hahn of MathWorks to explain how Simulink and Simscape can be used to develop a lateral vehicle dynamics model. This can help you improve your concept decisions, understand dynamic load behavior, and confirm your design by comparing model results with DAQ data.

A two-mass car model based on Simulink was used in combination with a Simscape model for validation of sprung mass movement to simulate front and rear tire behavior under varying normal loads and slip angles. Roni explains the algorithm describing the diagonal load transfer and the anti-roll bar equation.

You’ll get a complete model overview of the components used for simulation including car and simulation parameters, aerodynamics, spring damper system analysis, driver and slip angle, and lateral dynamics.
