MathWorks is seeking a highly motivated individual with technical experience and interest in control design and embedded code generation with MathWorks products for Model-Based Design. In this role, you will have opportunities to engage customers with a broad spectrum of applications and technologies including control systems, electrification, aerospace, robotics, automated driving, and AI.

As an Application Engineer you will work directly with customers to understand their technical and business challenges and help them applying MathWorks products toward the resolution of their problems. You will work with our customers in a wide variety of industries to first identify and understand their technical and business challenges and then develop compelling demonstrations of solutions that help them appreciate how the adoption of MathWorks products add value towards enhancing their workflows. You will engage customers and prospects in seminars, conference calls, meetings, and through product evaluations to develop a shared vision for success. The technical know-how and excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills are key elements for your success in this role.

This role is a full-time staff position, based in Tokyo Japan.

Responsibilities

  • Generate excitement, confidence, and passion for the adoption of control design products for Model-Based Design.
  • Engage with customers to understand their project goals, recommend effective technical solutions and provide technical assistance for Model-Based Design.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, demonstrations, and application examples in customer meetings, seminars, and other public events.
  • Manage product evaluations and developing adoption plans that assist customers in adopting MathWorks products.
  • Partner with sales representatives to help develop territory and account level selling strategies
  • Identify new trends and application areas and provide feedback to development and marketing teams. Collaborate with the worldwide team on developing compelling messages and demonstrations.
  • Advocate for the future direction of MathWorks products based on customer interactions

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree and 3 years of professional work experience (or a master's degree, or equivalent experience) is required.

Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent spoken and written Japanese communication skills.
  • Business level English is desired.
  • Knowledge and experience in Model-Based Design.
  • Knowledge and experience of controller design and C code generation are strong pluses.
  • Experience using Simulink and/or Stateflow for control system or software development.
  • Experience using MathWorks products for control design or C code generation is a plus.
  • Strong desire and ability to work with customers and handle multiple projects based upon changing business opportunities and external demands.
  • Ability to interact effectively with MathWorks business partners in Sales, Marketing, Software Development, Application Engineering, Training, and Consulting.
  • Periodic ground or air travel throughout Japan for customer visits (up to 25%).
