Are admin privileges required for changing Matlab settings?

Is a user required to have administrator privileges (Win 7) to change preferences and/or paths in Matlab?
I know it is required for installation, but I have heard conflicting answers about preferences and paths. Searches of Matlab Central and Google resulted in no direct answer.
Thanks

Yes. UAC privileges are required to make some changes such as editing any MATLAB shipped file including the shipped pathdef.m used when calling savepath()
Setting most preferences should not require UAC, though there might be some edge ones I don't know about.

You do not have to have administrator privilege to change preferences in Matlab.
