Time aligning data - an unusual situation

Hi there
I have a rather difficult problem. I am trying to align data from different sensors placed on different parts of a person's body which give accelerometer data. The people completed a set of three skips to mark the start of their journey. At first I thought it was as simple as looking for the parts of the signal with the highest correlation and then aligning that way. However, now I realise that because they are placed on different parts of the body ie hip, leg and arm the skips will look different in each read out. What would be the best way to align such data?
Thank you in advance as I have been really struggling with this one!
