CPUs and MATLAB: AVX2.0 on 4770k vs. quad ch RAM on 4820k

Hi,
Wondering what your opinions are on performance comparison between these two intel CPUs, in their core specs, supported instructions, and in consideration of their supported RAM configurations as well.
The AVX 2.0 instructions on the 4770k lends benefits to the efficiency of signal processing. However RAM is only supported at best with a dual channel configuration at a max 1600MHz.
On the other hand, the 4820k does not support AVX 2.0, but does support 1866MHz RAM in quad channel configuration, and at a slightly higher non OC'd core CPU clock speed (3.7GHz vs. 3.5GHz of the 4770k).
I'm planning a system upgrade, and would like to know whether someone can contribute any thoughts on whether the higher elementary specs of the 4820k and for its supported RAM would make up for the lack of AVX2.0 instructions in performance.
To be honest, I'm not sure how AVX is implemented, regardless of its version, or whether MATLAB takes advantage of this to begin with.
Does MATLAB support AVX, or AVX 2.0 optimizations at all?
If an application has once supported AVX, is the new AVX 2.0 standard supported automatically or does that application (or under-the-hood code library, like BLAS) need to be recoded to support the 2.0 optimizations?
Thanks, Brian
