Spherical Harmonic Gravity- Legendre Functions

Can you please direct me to a reference that shows how to compute the associated Legendre functions in gravitysphericalharmonic.m? They are named 'P', and I am unable to verify the equations used for computing them.
Also, can you point me to a reference that gives the equations for the scaleFactor?
