Big Plots With Subplots Via Parallel (nodisplay mode)

I am trying to create plots while running in parallel using a Mac or Linux machine. These plots look great when done in normal mode using the native display manager. However when I run in parallel I cannot coax the plot quality out. I have tried various formats including PDF and the results are the same; each of my four subplots are very small - essentiall lines.

Are you sure that 'position',[100 100...

and 'paperpositionmode','auto'

Won't interfere?!
