.lnx file? Trouble loading into MATLAB

Hi,
I am currently working with a database that is located here (<ftp://ftp.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/precip/CPC_UNI_PRCP/GAUGE_GLB/RT/2014/)>. The format seems to be .lnx (which I am unfamiliar with). After some research it seems to be some kind of binary format however I am struggling to load these files with fopen.
Any thoughts/help would be appreciated!
