What does norm function indicate ?

I was coding my research paper and my collaboartor used norm(abs([max2,0,max1;0,theta,0]),2) term while coding. Can someone ellaborate what does this represent?

From the MATLAB documentation:
n = norm(X) returns the 2-norm or maximum singular value of matrix X, which is approximately max(svd(X)).
In your case, X is the matrix abs([max2,0,max1;0,theta,0]).
