True Vector graphics with OpenGL?

The painters renderer is becoming obsolete. Will it be possible to render vector graphics with OpenGL or will it be impossible to get vector graphics from plots at all? I mean true vector graphics, not embedded raster graphics inside a SVG file for example. This is very easy to spot if you open the SVG file with a text editor.
If Vector gephics become obsolete, I am definetly going to pick up matplotlib

If I recall correctly, exportfig from the file exchange can produce true vector svg files.
I do not know whether exportgraphics is able to produce vector svg
