What is the duration of Mathworks Matlab Online student license?

Hello, I use Matlab online for programming. I have run out on my 20 hours per month limit and would like to purchase a basic student version which is USD 115. Please advise me upon the duration of this license - month, year or perpetual? And does it have a limit ont he number of hours per month or unlimited?

Hi @PChoppala,

The MATLAB Student Version license is perpetual, meaning you can use it indefinitely without needing to renew it. This is a one-time purchase and not a subscription.

Note that, the desktop version that you install on your computer does not have any usage limit on the number of hours per month, so you can use it as much as you like. However, note that the 20-hour monthly limit applies only to MATLAB Online.

When you purchase MATLAB Student version, you automatically get one year of Software Maintenance Service (SMS). That entitles you to upgrade to any new MATLAB version that is released during the time your SMS is active. You can pay a fee to renew SMS. When your SMS expires, you stop being eligible for upgrades. You would remain permanently eligible to use any release up to when your SMS expires.

However, Student licences can only be used while you are enrolled in an eligible degree granting program. When you stop taking your degree your licence gets suspended. Your licence would be reactivated if you ever went back to class. This is not technologically enforced; it is a matter of license terms.
