Matlab startup delay linked to InitSunVM ?

17 views (last 30 days)
Matlab has been taking nearly two minutes to startup. I tried to trace this by starting matlab from the command line using matlab -timing. When I looked at the output, the problem seems to be due to a routine InitSunVM. If I close Matlab and start it a second time the problem goes away.
Any suggestions for how to fix this? I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

OK, I found the answer to this. This is due to having McAffee VirusScan installed. The virus scanner takes a long time to scan the VM files when they start up. To fix this I went to the VirusScan console, selected On-Access Scanner and double clicked on this, this called up a configuration window. You then click on the "All Processes" icon, select the exclusions tab and add an exclusion for "C:\Program Files\MATLAB" and all it subfolders. This changed the startup time to 17.2 seconds. Which is still a bit annoying, but not a disaster.

this worked really well. Typically it takes 200 seconds for my matlab 2016a to start but when i disabled my antivirus(Panda) it just took 25 seconds.
