extract number from image

I have some images of Meter reading (means snap shot of the electric meter)Now I need to extract the reading (as Number) from the images.How can I perform this using matlab?

i have gone through following steps but it is still not working

1) Image thresholding

2) ROI calculation so that i can have the exact area to calculate.

3) At last i applied OCR. functions are working but giving some unknown result, can any one help me out
