Are you possibly using a very high resolution monitor?
Also, if you are using a high resolution or very high resolution monitor on MS Windows and you start up Simulink or a few other tools, the resolution might change; there is a patch for that for MS Windows.

There is currently no way to modify the font size of Toolstrip icons in MATLAB R2014b. I work for MathWorks and I have forwarded this feedback to the appropriate product team.

R2012b Is it possible to remove the words and have just the icons on the toolstrip, and the description only comes up when the mouse rolls over the icon? I really dislike the new toolstrip where you have to select a huge dropdown tab that then obscures much of the workspace. I was using R2010b previously.

I'm running Win 10 and matlab 2014b, also encounter this problem. I found way to fix it by:
  1. Right-click on matlab icon and select properties
  2. Select Compatibility tab
  3. Select Change high DPI settings
  4. In Program DPI, check the box
  5. In High DPI scaling override, check the box and chose System (Enhanced).Enjoy!!
