Modelling output of battery storage with tidal energy

Hi, I have modeled a system in excel but it is too limited and I was hoping it would be possible to do something in simulink or Matlab, and I would like some advice on how to best proceed.
I have a year of tidal output data, at every 10 minute interval. Lets say I have a 6 MW tidal turbine, and its output power to grid is constrained at 5 MW. Therefore every time the power output exceeds 5 MW the remaining energy will need to be stored. Then, once the output power drops below 5 MW, the stored energy is used to bring the output to grid back up to 5 MW.
If the storage system is a simple 1 MW 3MWh battery, and therefore limited to outputting 1 MW at any instantaneous time and having the ability to store 3 MWh. What is the best way to model this? I've never used Simulink before but have used matlab. This appears to be a simple problem to solve, but due to the battery constantly charging and discharging, it proved very difficult to model in EXCEL.
Thank you in advance
