Can I publish interactive figures in HTML?

When using the publish feature, and including 3D figures, quite a lot of information gets lost when the figure window is converted to a 2D projection.
Is there a way to embed the functionality of a figure viewer into HTML? If not within MATLAB, maybe do you know of (open!) external tools? For example, Elsevier provides the Interactive MATLAB Figure Viewer for online versions of articles, but it wouldn't be Elsevier if it was made publicly available.
