create a mesh with matlab with given nodes and coordinates

I have been given a lag file which has the nodes and coordinates. It's for finite element analysis of a footing. How do I open it with MATLAB and then generate a mesh?

Hi I have worked a lot on such things earlier. What element your mesh consists of? If it is four noded, you can straight a way use the PlotMesh.m function from the link: http://in.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/31788-the-plane-stress-problem If it is any other element, you can modify the function accordingly.
