Is completing Onramp course enough for me to put MatLab on my resume?

I am a non-engineer but would like to add MatLab to my experience as I have some info tech background.

If you feel that your knowledge of MATLAB is sufficient to solve most of the problems you expect to encounter, go for it. If it isn’t, you’ll be found out soon enough. It’s your future, so your call.

Typically on a resume, you would give an indication of how strong you consider the skill to be. "Familiarity with MATLAB" might be perfectly honest, and conveys to readers that you have some experience but could not be expected to solve everything. Now if you were claiming to be an MATLAB "expert" I would be a lot more concerned.

Early on in careers, you generally want to list a lot of skills, to make it clear to employers that you are versatile... and when you are starting out there really is something to be said for "throwing a whole plate of spaghetti against the wall and hoping that something will stick" (that is, you want your resume to attract the widest potential audience, because someone might just happen to have a need for someone who can do MATLAB programming in between taking clients out white-water rafting.)

Eventually, though, having too many skills listed starts working against you, with employers saying "If you know all that, you can't know it well". And later still, your resume just gets too crowded and you have to cut things out because of space limitations.

There is something to be said for the approach of tailoring your resume for the place you are applying. Study the needs of the organization, study what kind of positions they have been advertising, and create a resume for them that emphasizes the skills they are looking for and leaves out the things they would consider irrelevant.
