How to detect white patches in the image?

I need to detect aceto-white region in cervicogram image to detect cervical cancer. Thresholding and k-means are not suitable. Is there any method to detect white patch? I am using MATLAB.

You may use regionprops for this. For information about usage of regionprops, refer the following link.

You'll need to use color segmentation. See my demos: http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/?term=authorid%3A31862
Or else use Color Thresholder on the Apps tab of the MATLAB tool ribbon.

Dear Image Analyst, I could segment white patches by considering blue component of RGB image. Result is Gray image. I want to overlap gray image on original colour image. I tried multiplicatio, imfuse and overlay function, but it changes the colour of original image. How to get back the original colour of extracted white patch? Thank you

Please at least Try the Color Thresholder. From that you can export code.
Then you can use the mask to blacken outside the regions of interest.
