Good way to download route, altitude, topographical information using a matlab toolbox?

I am trying to download route information from one location to another that will include data such as distance, altitude, speed limit, road characteristics, direction, etc. so I can use this data in a simulation program. Does anyone know a good way to do any of this? Is there a Matlab toolbox available or has anyone ever used something like Google Earth to do this? Another thing to note is that I would like to be able to have numerical values for distance, speed, etc. in a format such as excel or matlab.
