When you log in to your account and go to the Download Installer page, under Downloads, you should be able to see these two choices: 1) Download R2016b 2) Download Earlier Release The latter would allow you to choose whichever earlier release you want.

Going to your MATLAB account, do you see any licenses under May Account / My Software?
No such choice for selecting earlier versions
You need an existing license to access the earlier versions. I do not know whether it works with a trial license or not.
If going directly to
does not work then you are probably not being recognized as having a license.
We are trying to download based on a course @Coursera. We are supposed to be allowed a trial version of 180 days. How do we avail it for earlier versions?
I have never heard of a trial being granted for 180 days, only of a MOOC license being granted for that long.
If you are using MOOC license you probably need to ask the MOOC coordinator for assistance.
If you are using a Trial license then you can contact Mathworks for free installation assistance.
