calling other softwares using matlab

how can i call other softwares from matlab? can anyone explain?

That depends on the other software.
One easy thing is to use the SYSTEM command (or ! or DOS or UNIX) to call another piece of software from MATLAB.
More advanced methods work the MATLAB executable files (MEX files) that are written in C and can be uses for interfaceing with other software.
C MEX S-Functions are often used in Silulink to co-simulate.

other software is MODELSIM HDL design tool.....
so how can this be done ?can you show examples?

For ModelSim, you could create your own link as Andreas mentioned, but we actually already have a product called EDA Simulator Link that allows you to do co-simulation to verify HDL code using a MATLAB or Simulink testbench.
