There is no specific default font for MATLAB. MATLAB chooses a font to display based on your Java settings.
In order to figure out what font is being used on your machine, please read the following reference:
This will point you towards a specific Java configuration file.  Within this file you should see a line starting with
monospaced.plain.alphabetic=
followed by the name of a font.  This is the font that MATLAB will use.

place_to_look = fullfile(matlabroot, 'sys', 'java', '**', 'fontconfig.properties.src');
dinfo = dir(place_to_look);
if isempty(dinfo)
fprintf('Sorry, I am not smart enough to figure it out for your system\n');
else
fprintf('%s\n', fullfile(dinfo(1).folder, dinfo(1).name));
end
/MATLAB/sys/java/jre/glnxa64/jre/lib/fontconfig.properties.src

To check the font Matlab is using in r2018a or later, open preferences from the home tab and navigate to MATLAB > Fonts.
See the documentation for more info.
