I am assuming that you got a connection error which reads "The application could not connect to MathWorks" when installing or activating MathWorks products. Sometimes even if your computer is connected to the internet, there is likely a firewall or proxy server which is preventing the activation client from contacting MathWorks.

Close the firewall (including the firewall of Private network, the firewall of Public network, etc) before installing the Matlab.
