my matlab is not connected to the internet, how can I download updates and patches? Version 2012B is of interest today. 2014B and 2016 will also require updating.

If you want to download newer versions of MATLAB, ask MathWorks sales person to send you DVDs. For patches, find another machine that you can connect, download them on that machine, and transfer it to the machine that is not connected to the internet.

Can you expand on "download them on that machine". I have an internet connected machine but don't know where to find the patches to download. All I can find is the installation DVD's/Media which are original and don't appear to include any patches..

It depends on what kinds of patches that you want to use. Is there any specific patches that you want to use?
By default, they are not necessary. You can download patches from Bug Reports if you want to.
